Years ago at an air show at Dyess AFB one one the planes on display was a 117. The airman standing by would tell folks that 5heir autofocus cameras would have difficulty taking pictures of the 117.

Now, I was a bit surprised that they were letting folks take pictures so I inquired and, yeah, they didn’t care. Then I pointed at my Yashica 124 TLR, taking 2.25 slides, and asked even this?

I was really expecting him to say no, not a medium folk camera able to resolve every detail and manually focused, but the guy was either clueless or didn’t care so I snapped a few shots before going off to the insides of the nearby Galaxy for some shade to load a new roll of film.

They were great pictures.

Btw … if you’ve never tried to track a fast plane in flight using a waist level view finder held over your head and upside down where you’re actually facing away from what you’re trying to photograph you have never truly done something the hard way.
