When I first moved to the big island in 2000, you could get really close to what is now “the lake” in Halemaumau. In 2018 that area was destroyed and I doubt that the public will get that good of access ever again.
Funny that in the area where housing was destroyed in the 2018 eruption, people are clamoring to rebuild.
People aren’t too bright.
I live in a “safe” volcano area, but know that my access to the outside world could be severely limited at any time.
