I’ve read conflicting things on this topic, but from what I saw on the FDA website it does seem to me they approved it.
But they shouldn’t have. First, Pfizer botched the trials. They broke the blind and told all the placebo patients that they didn’t get the vaccine and then offered to let them cross over to the vaccine arm. So they lost their control group way too early. They lost the ability to tell just how much greater reduction in risk it will provide, or for how long it will provide it. This is not the first time a drug trial has allowed crossovers, but afaik it has only been done for treatments, when a person’s illness progresses further they let them cross over for humanitarian and ethical reasons. Not for something like this which isn’t a treatment.
Second, they had a lot of data from around the world that the vaccines were problematic - not just the question of no established long term safety and the potential for immediate harm - but that the efficacy wanes and it may not confer immunity against future mutations. Finally the FDA pushing back a bit against booster shots but they already fubar’d the entire thing.
I also read that Pfizer never even completed the animal studies. I know of several drugs that were pulled off the market by the FDA because the animal studies (done years in advance in most circumstances) indicated a potential safety problem that materialized in humans who received the drug after it was approved.

“It” is the subject of whether or not they approved it. It’s colloquial.

The author is illiterate. It’s throughout.
FDA stated Phizer vax was 95 percent effective during the approval meeting even though at review time it had fallen below 50 percent. They used different dates.

Article is from August 30th; did Pfizer get proper “full FDA approval” by midnight Sept 30 i.e. before 12:01am this morning (Sept 30th)?
They can’t use something that goes lower than 50% efficacy.
In August, the number was around 39% efficacy. It is probably lower now. The vaccine is for the original form of COVID which has long since mutated.
