HONOLULU -- One of the most active volcanos on Earth is erupting on Hawaii's Big Island.
Officials with the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed Wednesday that an eruption has begun in Kilauea volcano's Halemaumau crater at the volcano's summit.
Webcam footage of the crater showed lava fountains covering the floor of the crater and billowing clouds of volcanic gas were rising into the air. The same area has been home to a large lava lake at various times throughout the volcano's eruptive past....

I’m here / there.
Small fountains , mostly fissures in the floor of Halemaumau are feeding a new lava lake

Global Warming is real! /sarc
I’ve always wondered (not!) why no one bothers to report how much CO2 is produced by a volcano compared to, say, my car. No enviro-nut ever proposes the end of volcanoes to arrest global warming...come to think of it, they never propose any solutions; if the “problem” was ever solved, they would lose one of their pretexts to spend our money!
I’m sure Hawaii is beautiful but I can’t imagine living near an active volcano and wondering how far it will go every time it burps.
active volcano only on a lesser populated island
To quote Petula Clark, “it’s the sign of the times”.
Someone needs to put a cork in that thing before someone gets hurt. How many cement trucks would that take?
We may need to call you to throw some rat politicians into the volcano to appease it.
That would change the volcano name to Krakatoa. It would make an awfully big boom ;-)
Hawaii records highest COVID death toll in September since start of pandemic
Kilauea, the volcano in Iceland, the one on La Palma all puking at the same time...
I wonder how often a hat trick occurs...
And we were there - in Hilo, made the trips up the mountain to the volcano just two years ago. When there was no lava, no flows, no smoke even! Dramatic area, beautiful island. (God tsunami museum in Hilo too.)
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
/Long sigh of discontent.
Seems like volcano season.......well, slightly.
Than God they’re spillers and not spewers.
