Minister for the Environment, Climate Action and Communications Eamon Ryan has said that the electricity supply is “tight” and that the Government cannot be absolutely certain that no power outages will occur this winter.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Minister Ryan said that subsequent winters will also be difficult, but added “we will manage it”. […]
Minister Ryan said “we can’t have the lights going out” and it would be necessary to use Moneypoint and other older plants for backup power when the wind is not blowing.
He said the running of fossil fuel power plants as backup was always part of the plan but he does not want this to extend that beyond 2025 and it must be managed within the overall climate and carbon budgets.
He said that Ireland is also developing other new grid interconnections, with the UK by 2023 and with France by 2026, to bring “significant balancing capability”. …

Unclear is government speak for yes, there will be power outages.
Should make all of the welfare recipients over there use those for power.
LOL all these lofty “climate targets” from the mentally deranged left. Watch them delay the 5 and 10 year plans every 1-2 years.
B=Capacity to meet that demand.
C= Differential.
B-A=C
If C is a negative number it's crystal clear what's going to happen.
If C is a positive number you obviously have room to punish and abuse your population some more with climate action initiatives.
I love the Irish, but I hope they get it hard and cold.
Much of Europe will be freezing this winter, and it is really hard to feel sorry for them.
People in power bring this on everyone. They know what the cause is & what can be done about it, but that seems to be the crux of the problem. They can’t bring themselves to admit their mistakes & turn back from when it would have been very simple to never have gone there in the first place. I’m very afraid that we here in the U.S. could be facing some of the very same problems this winter. The cure for it is not that complicated, but more expensive now as they have wasted much money on a solution that was destined not to work....money that could have been used to bolster existing technology instead of chasing a fart in a whirlwind.
And soon no more nat gas allowed in new construction and we all are forced to use EVs. The electricity will just magically appear for the demand. Especially in winter.
The people in power aren’t making mistakes. They’re doing this deliberately.
