Right. And pro athletes are pretty much always paid by sponsors, even if a team or other organization is the intermediary. Nothing special or elevated about the Ryder Cup.
I know... not the same thing...

The only player I was disappointed with was Xander Schauffele in the final singles match he had with Rory. Rory won that match in my view on Xander’s errors more than his own good shots. Yes, I know, Rory had a day of rest that Xander did not have, but it was so close at the end and to me mostly on Xander’s mistakes. I like Xander, I was just disappointed.
I did not feel the same about Morikawa. In spite of his knuckle bitter close match with Victor Hovland I thought they were the closest matched players among the twelve matches. I expect Hovland to be on every European Ryder Cup team for many many years to come.
“Nothing special or elevated about the Ryder Cup.”
On the contrary. the Ryder Cup IS special, as is the President’s Cup. In both cases they are team events, unlike all other major PGA tournament events, and it is a USA team against either a European Team (Ryder Cup) or an International Team minus Europe (President’s Cup). Yes, team events in golf are “special”.
As well as Morikawa - very impressive and talented.
He probably is but also a prolific gambler, thus his early retirement from basketball to play minor league baseball.
Then after the heat died down, he decided to return to the NBA.........
Reminded me of a Trump rally. That crowd was raucous in their enthusiasm. Good show! The players were proud of their accomplishment and yet quite humble.
Many of them have played with Donald Trump. I'm pretty sure most of them voted for him, too. It's what patriots do.
