Yes. But the company with the patent (Pfizer, for example) does not make the generic; a generic house (Rugby, for example) makes the drug and sells it under its generic name. Usually many generic houses will make the product, increasing competition. A generic manufacturer has to show GMP (good manufacturing processes) and bioavailability within 80-125% of the brand name product, but sells it at a fraction of cost of the brand name product.
