CHINA must make the first nuclear strike against the US if Joe Biden continues to defend Taiwan, a top Chinese diplomat says.

Beijing's former ambassador to the UN, Sha Zukang said the country's long-standing promise to only use nukes in retaliation should be re-examined in response to the new alliances forming in the region. He said: "The unconditional no first use is not suitable . . . unless China-US negotiations agree that neither side would use [nuclear weapons] first, or the US will no longer take any passive measures to undermine the effectiveness of China’s strategic forces.

"The strategic pressure on China is intensifying as (the US) has built new military alliances and as it increases its military presence in our neighbourhood."

The threat came ahead of a meeting between the US, India, Japan and Australia - dubbed the Quad, in Washington, host by Joe Biden.

During a meeting of the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association in Beijing last week he said: "The policy not to be the first to use nuclear weapons unconditionally has given China the moral high ground internationally.

"But for some time in the future, the US will see China as its main competitor and even its enemy. Can this policy be re- examined and fine-tuned?"

China became a nuclear power in 1964 and adopted the policy four years later.

The country is constructing nearly 300 new nuclear missile silos, while it is thought to possess around 320 nuclear warheads, report the Times.

The diplomat seems to think that one Nuke hit will cause the US to wilt due to the Democrats being in office...maybe.

The diplomat needs to remember that it was a Democratic president that ordered the first 2 a bombs dropped.

I have lived and worked in China.

My speculations are based upon experience with people there. They were not stupid people at all. They were infused with a cultural-inspired vindictiveness that could make them quite capable of self-destructive factional disputes at the moment of their greatest victories.

We have analogous weaknesses in our own culture.

I stand by my expectation that first use of nuclear weapons in this century will be China vs China.

Growing up around the sub base in groton, it I’ve been intune with this situation.

With 16 subs that are based there, 12 of those subs have the capability to end life on earth. We have more than 25 in our total arsenal.

Those subs aren’t in Groton at the moment. I’m sure Biden will attempt to call them back to make them a target for China but submarines typically do whatever they want to achieve long term goals.

And probably wouldn’t do that. Sub commanders are not your average people.

Allowing threats of such actions in a public statement by a minor official is psychological operation. The purpose is to allow our own "leadership" to rationalize backing away from confronting China as China makes increasingly aggressive moves.

China has different rulers. It is the same culture and the same people than it always was. It will do the same things that it always did.

I do not discount that possibility.

However, if Iran gets nukes, which looks increasingly likely, barring several consecutive Trump policy Presidencies in the US and / or continued Israeli success at espionage, such acquisition almost certainly leads to a ME arms race that can have only one result: I’d say the only question would be whether the initial exchange is between Israel and Iran, or, more likely, between Sunni and Shiite factions or countries.
