Slight update* and refinement to a post from the thread on 9/21:

There are some problems with the below numbers, pulled off Worldometers (data lags, lack of accounting for varying behaviors with time, group affiliations (I suspect at this point unvaccinated people in general expose themselves to higher virion levels, for example), different variant, etc. But, still...

- - - - - - -

Early-Jan., 2021 peak 240,000 daily new cases (est. 2 week avg.)

Mid-Jan., 2021 peak 3,500 daily new fatalities (est. 2 week avg.)

Est. Daily CFR avg. = 1.456%

- - - - - - -

Early-Sept., 2021 peak 160,000 daily new cases (est. 2 week avg.)

Late-Sept., 2021 peak 1,550 daily new fatalities (est. 2 week avg.)

Est. Daily CFR avg. = 0.9695%

- - - - - - -

My personal reality check on this one is that with one exception*, presently I’m just not seeing fatalities or serious cases around my family, friends, and associates - granted that almost all these adults are vaccinated.

*The update is a family member (sis-in-law’s hubby) overseas, unvaccinated. I learned today the COVID has now moved into his lungs and he is in worsening / bad shape. He never did have nasal or sinus symptoms, but did test positive, with fever and fatigue for ~2 weeks. Odd case? The rest of the adults in the household have typical COVID symptoms, but mildly. Hopefully the husband will pull through ok.

"Seriously, don’t cooperate with our oppressors by masking up."

How is wearing a mask any kind of oppression?

Yeah, that was a hotspot for awhile until they defied the WHO and started using Ivermectin. 241 million people. Impressive. Just imagine if we could use it here.

“How is wearing a mask any kind of oppression?”
**********************************************
If it’s mandated, it’s oppression to those who don’t want to wear one. I’m perfectly fine with you and yours wearing a mask if you want. Me? I trust my immune system (particularly after I got my second Moderna shot). Any incidental exposure to the virus merely strengthens my existing immunity.

I don’t know about familyop, but it is pretty clear (and actually has been for some time) that the vaccines are not very good at curtailing nasal / sinus COVID infections (esp. with Delta), and therefor they are not very effective against spread. The vaccines ARE quite good at clobbering COVID when it tries to go further. The nasal immune response is different than the bloodstream’s — the vaccines work with the latter. Beaubo can explain this better than I. (We had a good discussion about it a few threads back.)

Decent masks properly used will cut virion projection quite a bit, and in this game lowering exposure may mean the difference between that stranger brushing by you getting no case vs. a mild case vs. a serious case. Unless you were recently recovered or tested (negative), unmasked you do not know what risk you may put that brusher-by in. Masked properly, at least you’ll send them fewer virions.

This is NOT an argument for mandates. It IS an argument for education. But, even Sweden did not get that last right... :-(

The question is, though, did Ivermectin clonk the COVID, or did it clonk in a country like India, rampant comorbidities? (Parasites, Malaria, etc.)

I sure as heck wouldn’t want even a seemingly mild case of Malaria in conjunction with COVID.

In my comment #51, I was referring to the insults, vulgarities, slander and threats from anti-mask anti-vaxxers. They’ve also been implying and demanding that we shut up and leave FR. Outside of FR, others like them have been threatening and attacking medical workers, retail workers and others. Some have done worse.

California dad charged with murder in spear gun deaths of his two young children across Mexico border
Fox News
By Michael Ruiz
https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-dad-murder-spear-gun-mexico
“He allegedly claimed to be receiving visions that his wife ‘possessed serpent DNA and had passed it onto his children’ and also mentioned ‘QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories.’

Who in their right mind wants to be associated with that? Maybe we’ll see what a small, noisy subgroup of people on a tangent can do without the rest of us in the next two elections. Republican politicians should consider that. It might come to a choice between the quieter majority of us or the perpetually inconvenienced hippies.

We all have immune system weaknesses at times. Some people are weakened by difficult work schedules. Some are weakened by medical conditions. Others are weakened by sedentary behavior. Others, yet, by pregnancies.

I’ll wear masks for them. I’ve done far more difficult things for my family, neighbors and country with no net gain for myself.

Agreed on big government mandates. The mail-in ballot debacle was wrong. I’m okay with business and individual office policies, though. Without those, food, for example, would be hard to get by now.

I don’t give anyone the evil eye for going into a crowd without a mask. The way I see it for myself, though, is that invasion by fewer virions is quicker to defeat.

Thanks for the info.! That’s a good point about the elastic straps: It requires care to get it reasonably comfortable (esp. as I wear glasses) and yet have the mask stay snug.

I think cannibalizing N95’s for the electrostatic material (the electret “grab” is actually more critical than the weave density) is best, but I’ll probably have to make one of yours 1st to see how to best to proceed.

Wow, thanks for that graph of U.P., India’s deaths.

Another factor that might contribute to today’s low case numbers there, could be how thorough the March-July Delta wave was in creating natural immunity in that population.

Vaccination allows us to specifically target the most vulnerable for protection, but natural infection has the quality of preferentially targeting those high contact individuals, who are relatively more important in transmission. After highly the infectious Delta has run its course freely, as happened there, the herd immunity should be pretty deep and solid.

I’m speaking of a real study with all applied rules and peer reviewed.

What do you do when the applied rules and peers are corrupted and can't be trusted.

I assume the Philippines, and likely the antibody infusion is not available to him.

Perhaps send them a copy of the Zelenko protocol?

Seriously, don’t cooperate with our oppressors by masking up.

Ironical coming from someone who took their vax, defends it like its his first-born, and encourages others to take it.

Yea, you're such a rebel, Harkonnenen.

That lower Case Fatality Rate (CFR) during this wave (from your Post#121), May be due to Vaccine Effect. The most vulnerable are now better protected.

Go, go feed stores!
