Don’t take my word for it, but I dimly recall the bell curve made some use of identical twins raised in different households with differing levels of support and income. I guess the idea was to see if it made much actual difference.

The Bell Curve says 85 for blacks, 88 for hispanics and 100 for whites.
105 for asians and 108 for jews.
There was a study about 3 people who tried to flag down a cab in NYC, each wearing the same suit. The white dude had no trouble; the hispanic looking dude had some trouble; the black dude couldn’t get a cab ride. It was chalked up to racism.
A followup study had the black dude wearing the same kind of suit, then some kind of Hindu-Indian outfit, then some African outfit, then some gangsta-looking blackman outfit. He had no trouble getting a cab as the Indian nor the African. So what the dude was experiencing was CULTURAL prejudice. He didn’t change RACEs nor skin color, he changed CULTUREs.

Making poor choices over and over is interesting to me
Where people end up is the result of the choices they make. But if a person can realize beforehand the logical conclusion of the choices they make, they could actually change the programmed outcome. But they do not do that. They make the same short term, easiest, and laziest choices. Time after time. And generation after generation. It’s like common sense and logic are in the makeup of some races and completely absent in others. Can there be a Common Sense gene?
Murray didn’t invent this issue, he in fact has come late to the party, but he is articulate and well qualified, and apparently fearless.
BTW his work The Bell Curve is primarily about intelligence and class structure in the United States. The section which addresses ethnic differences in cognition is fairly short and tangential to the book’s main thesis.

Murray’s point is not to grind or dismiss African-Americans, but to point out that social policies that do not “face reality” are bound to fail. Many of the frustrations and failures of a portion of the black community (just like portions of the white community) are the direct result of low intelligence levels. Addressing gangs, crime, schools, employment, drug abuse, etc., in that population is impossible when intelligence can’t be factored into solutions.
One of the destroyers of potential intelligence in children is a lack of a calm, secure, stable environment, with adults speaking and reading to children. Babies and toddlers’ brains are either stimulated or stiffled through various environmental factors; once stiffled, their brains never fully develop physically. It’s impossible to help children thrive if social policy can’t touch the root problems.

And there are high schools in America where the average IQ is BELOW 85, attendance is required, and State Legislatures in their wisdom require Algebra II.
