Tabasco is hyped for a reason. It is the best hot sauce in the world. The local version here (Frank's Red Hot) is popular on buffalo wings (and in Buffalo, NY) but it tastes like mildly spicy catsup compared to Tabasco.
In Japan, it is available everywhere, even in the local (Kansai area) co-op markets which are not famous for their foreign food offerings. I also take a teaspoon a day during the cold and flu seasons and haven't missed more than half a day of work since I started the habit.
So, yeah, it is pretty good stuff often imitated but never duplicated.

is there any hot sauce more over hyped than tabasco? Agreed, though their green sauce is pretty good. As for me, my red sauce is Crystal.

...ever had whisky with a tigers penis in it? Luckily I'm missed that one... Another one of life's 'pleasures' to avoid is rare bear meat...or any bear meat for that matter in a drink or on a plate.

I just wish Chrystal wouldn’t pour so fast. They need to fix their bottle.
It’s good with ketchup for french fries and drowning cold next day pizza in the morning especially with a hangover in my younger days.

Kind of like Chorizo. Fresh made only. If the Chorizo is good so will be the salsa verde dishes.

Love Love LOVE Tapatio! I buy it by the gallon at the local warehouse store. I supply my pub with a bottle of it so when I order wings, I get the perfect blend of S&P and heat.
If I somehow end up with a beer I’m not fond of, I will add Clamato or various hot/tomatoey liquids. Even sweeter beers (dunkels etc) are tolerable that way.

The Japanese put corn and mayonnaise on their pizza. Enough said.
My local brewpub does turn out a very nice, zippy habanero porter. You won't want to drink a lot of it but it sort of gives you that nice little warm tickle all the way down.
