I loved my Fusion but I think I will go to a Falcon when I get back into it and boat around my mountain
I trained on a Falcon.
Tons of bar pressure.
Fun.
Actually, it was a Raven (black, orange, white) but still a single surface floater.
The HP was so slippery, nick name was hard pound which it lived up to as I recall flaring 15 feet up, known forever as “the day the earth shook”. A direct quote moments after in the LZ quote from a rival instructor, the guy was a dick.
Went on to fly 10 years before leaving SoCal. Hang IV.
Longest flight: 28 miles
Highest elevation: 12,500 ft
Best of luck getting back into it. I miss it everything about it.
Good times, I flew 12 years then switched to running for 17 but I am getting serious twitches in the flying muscles again. Got 178 off of Frisco Peak in Utah on a Ram-Air. Got to 17999.94 over Monroe on the same glider the next year :) HPs were trucks, that’s for sure.
sweet!!!
supplemental oxygen?
never needed, but that’s hypoxia land
I flew with a mini disco ball hanging from the kingpost to alert aircraft.
Crazy having Cessna’s flying thru the valley below you!
I couldn’t ever get above 13 with O2, it was like a curse. But I have pretty good VO2max so I didn’t get a deficit until 16K usually.
you realize there are like a few hundred of us on earth that were born with the flying gene and trained ourselves to do what we did at the level we did it
I lived in Del Mar and flew the Torrey Pines cliffs regularly. A true Torrey Rat. Squall dodging and trying to get on TV during the Buick Open golf tournament.
I painted the Torrey Pines signage for Bill Bennet, the guy who started Moyes and flew around the statue of liberty in the Bond film.
There’s not a lot of us, that’s for sure. I never got to fly Torrey but the Point is kind of the same, but completely different :) My prized possession for a time was a Moyes TShirt I got from the team at the 93 worlds in the Owens, which I wind dummied once for.
