Is it a regular Spain accent or other? I used to be pretty fluent in Mexican Spanish but it was a long time ago.

Definitely “other”. Spaniards on the mainland laugh at Canarian accents. And vice versa too, of course! It was a riot listening to each try to do parody/imitations of one another.

IIRC, “Mexican” Spanish is different slightly from the Castilian (i.e. “European” Spanish), I think that there is also a Canarian (Canary Island) dialect that is different too.
