No big deal. I’ll bet a bunch of “woke” men that age would have done the same thing. /SARC

Thanks. I can’t find it now, but reminds me of a letter my a soldier from England that fought alongside Americans in Afghanistan(?).

Talked about how the English, Australians, etc. would have to wait for superiors to work up a plan to come up with a rescue or if they came under attack.

The Americans would just run in and get it done with superior training and overwhelming force. Although I think the mind set and attitude is probably the main thing - as is shown here.

They really make you proud. Those are, and always will be, our boys. No matter their age or how fiercely proud and brave they are, they are ours.

In 1993, I was stationed a joint Navy and Marine Corps Reserve center. The Marines were a recon unit. A passenger train ran off the tracks in a bayou outside of Mobile, Al. The Marines at the reserve center were already loaded to do a training dive that day. This is from the FEMA post incident review:

“About 0430 hours, SCUBA divers from the Mobile Police Department and the Mobile
County Sheriffs Flotilla arrived on scene and began to prepare for recovery operations. A diving
team from the U.S. Marine Corps also showed up - its personnel actually did the body removals”

Some time later a woman and her child were swept off the road in a flood and ended up in the lake by our reserve center. The Marines did the body recovery in that incident, too. I was Navy, but those guys were bad to the bone. I had the utmost respect for them.
