The cops are now saying they know for sure there is no connection between the Moab couple’s murder and Gabby’s disappearance...... How can they know that for sure unless there is something they aren’t sharing?

I think you answered your own question. The police are way ahead of the general public, although I think they were genuinely surprised when they discovered Brian Laundrie wasn't at the house. His parents (and sister) have been misleading authorities.
