I was turned off by the word because it is WokeSpeak. The word "partner" is the fashionable, non-exclusionary word in the UK and Canada, so that the married are indistinguishable from the unmarried. However, she later says "the person I thought of as my husband" when relating the news of his desire to transition. So I think they were married.
But I don't care, since she seems only to have enabled this drama in order to have material for writing a book. And that "party" the neighbors gave? Her debut, giving a reading from the ¡book! at the event. Disgusting people.
There are better ways to sell a book; but they're harder to do than this waste of created life.
