Police bodycam footage has been released of officers speaking to Gabby Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie in Utah after they responded to a 911 call of a domestic incident a month before she was reported missing.
The Moab City Police Department on Thursday released the hour-long footage of their interaction with the couple when they pulled over their white van outside Arches National Park in Moab on Aug. 12.
In the footage, obtained by ABC7, Petito sobbed as she spoke to an officer.
“I have really bad OCD. I was apologizing to him saying I’m sorry I’m so mean,” Petito told the officer.

Sometimes a dingo really did eat the baby.
OR, he kicked her out of the van and she got picked up by a predator. Then, that guy killed her and buried her in the desert.
It may not have escalated to violence. He may have just left her somewhere. Or she may have stormed out of the relationship.
Here’s my theory: She left the van before morning and started walking. She got lost in the Utah wilderness and died or was picked up by someone and hasn’t been heard from since. He’s not talking because he honestly doesn’t know what happened to her.
I wouldn't be surprised if he killed her but these are not bad hypotheses. There are probably several other possible scenarios that exonerate this guy but people are accusing him of murder because he isn't talking. But in a situation like this, even if he's innocent, the last thing he should do is talk.
At least that's what Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson in Watts v. Indiana (1949) said, "Any lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to the police under any circumstances."
Here's a good law school lecture where you can test that advice for yourself.
That would have been the smart move but he’s yet to talk to the cops. The longer he doesn’t talk, the more suspicious he is.
Most would have called her mom all upset and asking if she’d heard from her. But this guy sends the mom fake texts and blogs as if it’s her. He’s smart enough to let her parents pay for a nice long vacation but real dumb after that.
That is true, lack of a body makes it very difficult to get a conviction, despite a boatload of circumstantial evidence. But DNA technology is making that harder and harder to accomplish.
There was a case in my hometown of Newtown, CT, which turned out being the first major case to get a murder conviction without a body back in the late 1980s. This was the infamous "woodchipper" case that supposedly was an influence on the movie "Fargo."
It took investigators months of hard work to put together a case, including going through landfills. Eventually they dredged a nearby river (Lake Zoar area) and came up with ground up body parts. It's really a grisly case and the guy almost got away with it.
As a side note, they released the guy from prison recently and he's now a free man. Just goes to show that a life sentence is not necessarily a life sentence.
Agreed. But an acquittal means no justice if the body is later found.
No statute of limits on murder.
Better to let the wheels grind slow but exceedingly fine.
Her van. Her parents footed the bills. Supposedly, they made something off the blog but I don’t see it. He was along for the free ride and fun under the stars.
Wouldn’t that be something. I hope police think like you.
Possible alternative - she is crazy enough to take off on her own.
However, I will admit that I dont have enough information to draw a conclusion
Her DNA, and his DNA are all over the van. They lived in it for months.
Presence of DNA does not equal proof of murder.
Unless you can find it somewhere where it is not supposed to be.
Unless the van has gps or their phones pinged or a half dozen other ways the feds can trace their whereabouts.
I'll see you wild theory and go one wilder:
Gabby's gate swung both ways.
Brian was blissfully unaware of this little factoid. Until he interrupted a lesbian three-way in the very act.
He flipped out.
Three people died.
Top that.
Another angle I'm sure the investigation is looking at is tire tracks and footprints (in the sand or dirt). Tire tread and footprint analysis is now on the level of fingerprints. They have the van so I'm sure they are now looking to see if matching tire tracks went off the road on the route they were on. That could very well be how they end up breaking the case.
She’s screaming because she’s in a tent in the rain. Uh, hello, go get into the van.
Real men don’t do yoga and eat yogurt.
Last time I checked, real men do whatever the heck they want and dare anyone to say something about it. ;-)
I think he murdered her is the way to bet, but I wouldn't rule out other possibilities or suspects just yet.
Well, every coach will tell you that every play is drawn up to be a touchdown... it doesn’t happen on every play because some one does not execute their assignment properly.
Hell, back in the days when I regulated stock brokers, we used to joke that we made our living on stupid crooks...
I don’t think anyone gave Rosey Grier crap for his crocheting, needlepoint and knitting...
You have to really like someone to be cooped up in a van that long. That is less space than a prison cell.
Probably didn't criticize his technique either. :-)
Or someone on the other team did!
