I took my 2011 MacBook laptop with the exploded battery, cracked it open and followed a YouTube video to clean it out (it was full of Pug dog hair), replace the gooey silver stuff (forgot what that’s called, but it keeps the CPU from overheating), replaced the hard drive and battery with brand new ones purchased off Amazon, and put it all back together again. For less than $100, I had a new laptop. (Although I have to admit — the battery stopped holding a charge after about 3 months. POS Chinese junk. So I just use it plugged in.) I could only upgrade it to a certain OS (I think it was El Capitan), but I only use it to surf the web when I’m sitting on the couch watching TV. The only files I save to it are memes. It works great and was a lot cheaper than buying a new iPad to do the same thing! I was even able to install the Telegram app onto it. Then I learned that people are grabbing these old MacBooks for $150 off Ebay and refurbing the way I did. I can even play old DVDs and mirror them onto my big screen TV. Couldn’t do that with a newer laptop.
Good for you!!

I’ll be trying to figure it out over the weekend. Never touched a Mac before. You are a tech wiz.

Cool, ponygirl!👍
The battery in my HP laptop stopped charging. Took a lot of searching to determine what type of replacement battery it needed. Contacted HP. HAH - out of stock. Called a “certified” HP replacement person - $100 for that battery. Took laptop to “the Geek Squad” - minimum $50 to replace after I purchased and received a battery from elsewhere ‘cause they don’t have ‘em.
So, watched YT videos, ordered a $30 battery from Amazon, then husband and I did the replacement ourselves. After 3 months, still working.😎
