Industry always tries to push its stuff by inveigling its way into the orgs that can fund it with taxpayer $$. Military has always needed watching on this. But, at least with much military stuff there is some semblance of a competitive bid process and if something crappy gets thru some soldier can scream about it.
Med is different when Guv’mt thinks it can mandate stuff. Not for a specialized group, but for citizens at large. That is corruption of an entirely different order. Geesh, that links back to old scares of fluoridated water stuff.
Getting the Government to mandate your product/service is a business model they teach in business schools. Solyndra, Tesla, ethanol fuel, carbon credits, you name it. Big Pharma is just one of a dozen industries that use the model.
