Was yours 8mm, then? The one I had was chambered in 7.65 x 53 Argentine, and I didn’t know there were any 1909 Mausers produced in 8mm.

Yes it was 8mm. Now that I think on it, it was more like an 1939 issue. I traded it away in 1971, so I don't remember the date. It looked like the Wehrmacht Mouser with the straight bolt, but had the Argentine coat of arms engraved on the receiver just behind the rear sight. It did not have that stupid hole through the stock for the sling.

It shot so straight that I was always amazed. I left it alone with no customization. The fellow I passed it to kept it as issued as well. He said he bagged two dear with it every hunting season since he acquired it. He did leave it to his son, who also cherishes it.

I miss it terribly.

I shot it a lot without hearing protection. You know the type: young, dumb, and ten feet tall. I can’t hear very well in my old age.
