To make matters worse the trade was done thru a local gun store. I think they knew the Solo was a Turkey and they were happy to have the Beretta.

I love My Norinco 1911. Bought it from a guy that used to do Competitions and got tired of doing it. He had de-burred everything: Safety, Hammer, Slide Lock, Magazine Well, Slide, Feed Ramp and a Trigger work over. I got the beat up Factory Box, Cleaning Rod/Brush, 7-7 Round Magazines and 50 Rounds of ammunition for $500 20 years ago. Never had any issues with feeding any ammo after thousands of rounds run through it.

There was one time when a glass of soda got dumped on it and I didn’t know that it happened. The next morning as I checked operation before leaving the house I saw and felt the sticky dried soda and I was unable to move the slide! Foiled by a glass of soda!!! I took a few sprays of CRC Brake Cleaner and all was good again. I sprayed the entire Pistol to remove the soda, blew it dry with compressed air and put a few drops of oil in the right spots and all was back to normal. I will not part ways with this Pistol.

My 2nd favorite is the Ruger P-85 MK-ll 9mm. I particularly like the Triple Ambidextrous Safety Move either the right- or left-hand safety lever fully to the “safe” position, the white dot is exposed through the hole in the side of the safety and the word “Safe” is completely visible. In this position (1) the firing pin is blocked from moving forward, (2) the hammer is blocked from contacting the firing pin, and (3) the entire firing mechanism is completely disengaged from the trigger. At this point, the hammer will fall to its forward (decocked) position. The safety mechanism provides that the hammer cannot contact the firing pin unless the safety is disengaged. With the hammer cocked, actuating the safety mechanism automatically drops the hammer onto the slide without contacting the firing pin. Thus, the safety also serves as a decocking lever. Additionally, the pistol has a separate internal firing pin block which will not allow the firing pin to move forward and contact the cartridge until the operator pulls the trigger with the safety off (in its “fire” position). The pistol can and should be loaded and unloaded with the safe. The Magazine Release is also Ambidextrous. The Trigger Guard is very large allowing a gloved finger plenty of room. The P85MK-ll is well balanced with the factory 15 round magazine fully loaded and I found the same even with the 35 round extended magazine. Also I never had any jams or misfeeds after thousands of rounds run through it as well just like My 1911.

I also like the grip feel from the double stack magazine well. I went through it with a complete tear down and de-burred all the sharp edges, polished the Feed Ramp, Magazine Well. Then I decided to change the finish due to a bit of surface rust on the Slide. I went with a machined finish called Fish Scale. e.

Doing the Fish Scale pattern was/is very time consuming to do so if anyone wants to do it be sure that you have the patience to follow through because it’s not a fast process. I used a Drill Press with a tiny wire brush (1/8” shank with a 1/4” brush head. To keep the wire brush the same size I wrapped some wire around the outside to keep the brush from flexing under pressure. I used 1000 grit Wet/Dry sandpaper to polish the Slide. Then I took some Valve Lapping Compound and using the FINE Side of the Lapping Compound applied with a Q-Tip to the end of the Wire Brush the Slide is held on the Drill Press Table and the brush is brought down to the Slide with the drill chuck feed, adjusted the location of each piece as I Fish Scaled it. I kick Myself in the A$$ every day for not keeping that Baby...

The next 2 stupid moves I made was selling off the RUGER SUPER BLACKHAWK .44 Magnum 10-1/2” Barrel, Walnut Grips, Stainless. < see a href="https://postimages.org/" target="_blank">

Next stupid move was the Winchester 1892 Large Loop Carbine, .44 Rem Mag, 20", 10rd, Grade I Walnut Stock and Forestock with Scope.

The last 2 were My Pig Hunters set.

Man o man o man. I cry with you. I’d NEVER sell a M1922 rifle with that kind of accuracy. Might never find one like that again.

Was yours 8mm, then? The one I had was chambered in 7.65 x 53 Argentine, and I didn’t know there were any 1909 Mausers produced in 8mm.

Yes it was 8mm. Now that I think on it, it was more like an 1939 issue. I traded it away in 1971, so I don't remember the date. It looked like the Wehrmacht Mouser with the straight bolt, but had the Argentine coat of arms engraved on the receiver just behind the rear sight. It did not have that stupid hole through the stock for the sling.

It shot so straight that I was always amazed. I left it alone with no customization. The fellow I passed it to kept it as issued as well. He said he bagged two dear with it every hunting season since he acquired it. He did leave it to his son, who also cherishes it.

I miss it terribly.
