I wholeheartedly agree with most of your points.

However, the risk from this virus is MUCH lower than your suggestion that "It kills perhaps 2-3% of the people it infects".

The fact is that it kills much less than 1% of the people it infects, and almost (if not all) of those it kills have significant comorbidity or are over age 70.

Covid-19 fatality rate is very similar to historical influenza fatality rates.

There are plenty of scientific studies the show this, and many have been presented in Free Republic forums.

Oh, I agree. For the sake of the argument, I use the Leftist numbers, which illustrate the point perfectly, and doesn’t allow the Lefties to sidetrack me into an argument about the death rate.

I have done the same thing with Chinese citizens murdered by the Communists during the Cultural Revolution, using the 40-60 million murdered number.

While I think the numbers may be 120-160 million, I use the numbers not contested by anyone, because...the point remains the same.

I have been skeptical of the numbers all along. The death rate in most of these types of things is usually composed of a numerator (those who have died from an infection) divided by a denominator (total number of those who have been infected)

I don’t trust either the numerator or denominator in this case for a variety of reasons.

And by the way, I haven't seen any similar studies about influenza, but I really suspect influenza fatalities are pretty much related to the same comorbidity as Covid-19
