An East Tennessee woman said she refused multiple opportunities to escape Afghanistan in an effort to save military contract dogs left behind during the hasty American withdrawal.
Clinton, Tennessee native Charlotte Maxwell-Jones is the director and founder of Kabul Small Animal Rescue in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she has lived for 11 years.
She said she’s staying behind until roughly 130 dogs, about 50 of which are military contract dogs, are safely evacuated.
“They’re my responsibility and I love them and I care for them. I think there’s a less chance of recovering them if I’m not here,” said Maxwell-Jones.
Maxwell-Jones told WVLT News that military contract dogs, like working dogs owned by the military, are trained to sniff bombs and perform crucial tasks to help neutralize threats for U.S. troops while overseas. However, she said that military contract dogs aren’t given the same priority as military dogs.
The main difference between a contract dog and a military dog is who owns it. According to Department of Defense spokesperson Eric Pahon, contract dogs are hired from outside companies to do work for the military, but the military does not own them.
Since the military does not own the contract animals or have access to their health records, they must take charter flights, not military ones, out of the country, Pahon told WVLT News. However, he did confirm that the department has worked with Kabul Small Animal Rescue to move the contract dogs into a safer, fenced in area.

Oh man, this stuff never ends. I do understand the emotional attachment to animals, BUT, we are talking about human beings that are being murdered over there. Just wow. Then, we wonder why God might be unhappy with us.

Some people will define this woman as heroic, others will use the term demented. There has to be much more to this story.

Was she the contractor and owner of the dogs? Sounds
to me like she is just trying to keep her property.
Within Biden’s base, there are more people outraged that dogs were left behind than the fact that hundreds if not thousands of Americans and their dependents were abandoned.
These dogs are a responsibility. A moral commitment has been made by their breeding, training and service. This woman is going above and beyond her personal responsibility to do what others have failed to do. It is praiseworthy that she is honoring that responsibility to animals that were trained and utilized by our military and by companies that supplied them for military use.
Your comment mixes apples & oranges and confuses who has what responsibility. The military command has abrogated its responsibility to people that helped the American mission & are being targeted as a result of that help. Leftists believe the ends justify the means and admit of no moral imperatives other than when using morality like a cloak to obtain leftist aims.
There are poor, hungry, brutalized, ill, mistreated people across the globe. One cannot change their fate en masse. There is a triage where one helps as one can, preferably those in one’s circle, community, country first. We are supposed to be good stewards and shepherds especially to those animals and lands we are responsible.
Biden is a feckless, corrupt poisonous leftist and no one, human, or animal, can reasonably expect to be treated fairly, compassionately or in any way other than ruthlessly by his administration.
If you read the story, she has been living there for 11 years running a Kabul Small Animal Rescue...That’s like an animal shelter...
That can be viewed as a net positive since any dissatisfaction with Ziden and his administration will help root them out, starting in 2022.
I don’t care how people take the red pill as long as they start the journey and become aware of the deception and lies that are the Left.
