Even health food stores have healthy canned foods—it just takes a little effort—and you could be the next prepper!
(Local farmers often can their products as well—some very healthy canned goods come from Mennonite/Amish stores if you are in that part of the country.)
Ditto on the healthy living - we're ingredient readers - some canned goods are fine. I've noticed that some produce is getting limited, and what they have doesn't seem to be the best quality. Really have to look around.
I did peek at the aisles of processed crap the last visit to the store, and there seemed to be plenty of that.
I know someone like your wife... I suggested she buy 20 pounds of rice and some canned soup... it’ll be better than eating tree bark...
And, if everything is fine - donate the rice and canned goods to a food bank in two years. Having a back-up doesn’t mean you have to eat it. Anyhow my friend agreed - it was the ‘notate to a food bank’ in two years that flipped her...
