Just buy two of those things when you would normally buy one

My wife buys very little canned food. She's the healthy living one in our operation. We might have more refried beans, and that's about it.

Even health food stores have healthy canned foods—it just takes a little effort—and you could be the next prepper!

(Local farmers often can their products as well—some very healthy canned goods come from Mennonite/Amish stores if you are in that part of the country.)

Ditto on the healthy living - we're ingredient readers - some canned goods are fine. I've noticed that some produce is getting limited, and what they have doesn't seem to be the best quality. Really have to look around.

I did peek at the aisles of processed crap the last visit to the store, and there seemed to be plenty of that.

I know someone like your wife... I suggested she buy 20 pounds of rice and some canned soup... it’ll be better than eating tree bark...

And, if everything is fine - donate the rice and canned goods to a food bank in two years. Having a back-up doesn’t mean you have to eat it. Anyhow my friend agreed - it was the ‘notate to a food bank’ in two years that flipped her...
