Its simple statistics. It might seem like there are a lot of breakthrough cases, but in reality, they’re rare, and the cases are almost always mild. Breakthrough cases and deaths make the news because they were and are super rare. These news stories are amplified by the anti-vax crowd and reinforce the idea the vaccines don’t work (confirmation bias). In reality, they’re working quite well—keeping the vaccinated from dying 25:1 or more.
I think the anti-vax right wingers are also more susceptible to catching covid because they’re convinced that covid is a joke with “only” 1/2 percent chance of dying. So they are more likely to hang out in groups _unvaccinated_. At least the liberals like Nancy and Gavin are vaccinated and flaunting the laws and rules they pass. So they are WAY less likely to end up mocked on their deathbeds.
This is an unfortunate case of mass hysteria. If Trump were president, the number of lefties refusing the vaccine would be much higher— but that is unknowable, just idle speculation.

IF NO prominent lefties, VAX’d get ill and or hospitalized, yet VAX’d notable righties do, then what stats support that distribution of cases?
It’s not like the lefties have been good about masking or social distancing. The common factor is the VAX, (’both’ have ir) and the disparate factor is the incidence of serious clinical infections.
My question remains - please point out ANY notable lefties, with power and influence, who have been seriously ill or hospitalized?
Prior to taking the Moderna version of the vaccination back in March, I consulted with my family doc.He gave the wife and i the stats, the chances of having a severe reaction to the vax, and the chance of severe sickness or dying from COVID. The vaccine, he said prevented the need for medical treatment in 85% of COVID cases, and a near 100% chance of surviving the virus. He also told us back then that the vaccines, NONE of them prevented you from getting or spreading the virus, they were designed to prevent sickness and death for the person getting vaccinated, no one else. So I question the term “breakthrough cases” as even being possible. And there are likely a good many cases where the vaccinated people have cases so mild they don’t know they have COVID, and don’t go get tested. I support the right to choose whether or not to get vaccinated and I wish there wasn’t so much propaganda out there on BOTH sides of the issue.
