Gates intends to or already has amalgamated with the Machine. He and most of the top techs believe they can digitally transfer themselves into the digital world and let their bodies die and rot away.

I am sure they can do that to the extent that people could hear what is exactly like Bill Gates on their computer screens with all of his mannerisms and quirks but there is no transfer in reality. There is a copy made of his electrical activity. It will not get all of him and it won't be him. It will be a copy with no consciousness. He will be, in fact, dead. If he has a soul that soul will be in Hell or more mercifully to one utterly undeserving of mercy from any source, extinct.
