What special test is there for distinguishing a lambda variant from a delta variant and for distinguishing either of these from the original variant?

The CDC takes samples and runs genetic tests to see what is circulating and if it’s new.

What special test is there for distinguishing a lambda variant from a delta variant and for distinguishing either of these from the original variant? The Delta variant has three sids, the alameda has two.
