I should think we were training afghans in all aspects of aircraft operation if we were leaving them with them. I’m thinking of those either intentionally sent through the courses to gain skills, or those who later became disillusioned with the anal agenda and defected to the Taliban. But you’re right. Contractors did the aircraft maintenance aside from the day to day that the US squadrons did. Phases/engine change. Helo maintenance is pretty intensive, ain’t seeing the Talis doing that in house. All the more reason those birds could have easily been put out of action with a hammer, let alone thermite grenades (the preferred method). And pilot skills in high density altitude (Afghanistan) perish quickly if you aren’t getting hours.
