LOL...the whole city of Naples felt like being inside the “gut” of a Bowery Bum with intestinal problems! (Someone told me the city was cleaner these days, but boy, it was nasty, gritty, and dirty back in the Seventies)
I went to Sigonella once, when we had a plane that had to divert there due to an engine issue. They flew a bunch of us over in a Sea King...:)
And I think we DID lose our anchor one time on the JFK when we were anchored off the shore near Sigonella (I think) and there was some hell to pay for that embarrassment!
LOL - we were stationed in Naples when I was a kid in the late 60s/early 70s. Fortunately, we lived in pretty Pozzuoli (Arco Felice) but yes, Naples by the docks could be a little gnarly.
I visited Naples one time...flown up to have 4 wisdom teeth taken out by a Navy dentist at the Naval Hospital. He tore my mouth up. But the pain meds were good! Plus, there was always wine...
