I looked a this study. It basically says one shot plus a natural infection is the best. It doesn’t say how to guarantee that a natural infection is a mild infection instead of a fatal infection. Awaiting peer review.
Roll the dice.
The authors propose the following regarding Pfitzer vaccines:
natural infection is better than one shot but wanes over time, which is not defined, but
natural infection with one shot is better than no shot, and
natural infection is better than two shots
T-cell and B-cell interactions may contribute more to immunity than antibody-inducing vaccines alone
When allowing the infection to occur at any time before vaccination (from March 2020 to February 2021), evidence of waning natural immunity by May 20, 2021 was demonstrated but not defined in time
Most adverse outcomes were noted in the 60plus age group, with ‘some differences in comorbidities’ between natural infection and vaccinated; “being 60 years of age or older significantly increased the risk of hospitalizations”
Study Table 1A shows a higher incidence of comorbidities among the ‘vaccinated’ versus previously infected (example: Immunocompromised-164 previous and 420 vaccinated, and cancer-324 previous and 636 vaccinated). also reflected in table 1B
Given: Model 1: 2-shot vaccinated vs infection = 1.47% vs 0.12% reinfection; 1.2% vs 0.06% symptomatic; hospitalizations: 8 vs 1
Given Model 2: 2-shot vaccinated vs reinfection = (1.4% vs 0.23%) reinfection; (1.1% vs 0.15%) symptomatic; hospitalizations (0.045%) vs 4
Given Model 3a: uninfected 1 shot vs infected = (0.11% vs 0.16%)
Given Model 3b: “0.68-fold decreased risk for 1-shot”
Given for all models: no deaths
Given for all models: caveat: “apart from age 60+” no assessed comorbidities affected risk.
what they’re saying is, an unvaccinated person, can get infected more than once
a vaccine helps prevent reinfection in a recovered unvaccinated, just as vaccines prevent infection in the majority of those vaccinated
And water is denser than air.
I’m not sure why you said he’s “blowing smoke”.
What he said has nothing to do with your next two sentences.
The reason vaccinated people are worried about unvaccinated is they were told to be worried and believe their masters.
The people who infect everybody are Pre-symptomatics. They could be unvaccinated or maybe breakthroughs.
If a vaccine is 85%, then there’s 15% chance of lower protection (like we see in grannies). It’s these guys that get ‘breakthrough’ infections. But most of them are 72 or older, tend to have other issues, and are not shedding virus at your favorite nightclubs and concerts. Younger Pre-symptomatic unvaccinated are more likely to be in the nightclubs and hot spots and large family gatherings.
Back last year there was a lot of discussion on asymptomatics being carriers, but a high viral load didn’t transfer into contagion. We may find out the same about breakthroughs. But I don’t think there’s much written on it.
Part of herd immunity is protecting the vulnerable populations - that’s old people, the frail and very young people. Young people can’t get vaccinated. So the way to protect everyone is, all the adults get vaccinated or catch the virus and live through it. Both have risks. There’s no guarantee you’ll have a mild infection with no damage. But the end goal is to stop the virus from circulating so it evolves into a toaster and we can get back to whatever normal is. Some people get emotional about protecting kids and old folks. Some people get emotional over being told to think of others - like people who refuse to quarantine when sick.
