Bush had no interest in getting Bin Laden, he wanted to stay in Afghanistan and nation build, and getting Bin Laden wouldn’t have helped.

I supported going in and eliminating all enemy personnel and removing Taliban and A.Q. leadership ASAP. I along with probably most Americans had zero delusions of nation building that place. Especially, based on GWB statements on nation-building during his presidential run. Boy didn’t he “change his tune” on that one.
I remember George W. talking about Saddam Hussein before the invasion of Iraq.
