Last time I checked, there is only one electric utility in my area. So, a mandatory vax and a monopoly don’t bode well for me.
I won’t quit, and f you and everyone else who thinks this is acceptable. I will claim religious exemption, and if fired I will sue for civil rights infringement.
That is certainly what the animal trials pointed to before covid was a thing.
My son’s business is mandating it - because of a few of their clients who are mandating it.
My son (in his 20s) is updating his resume.
They just gave him a hefty raise to entice him to stay, but he will not get the jab. They will have to fire him. He says his health is more important than any job to risk it on an experimental vaccine.
If you need it yearly, then it is not a vaccine. Vaccines stop infection and transmission, our current experimentals do neither. They are a symptom reducer at best. We already have many symptom reducers with proven track records, there is no need for a highly experimental one imho.
Your pushback is an important part of the decision making process. The more pushback you and your fellow employees offer the less likely they are to do it. I think there are some industries where mandatory vaccines may be the only way to go. The cruise industry is an example. Utilities are not. I suspect your employer will not require it but I would not want to tell the cruise industry they can’t. I suspect that even if you do not tell the cruise industry they cannot, there will be cruises that are all vaccine and there will be cruises that are not. There will always be money in providing services to people who refuse the vaccine. The government should not be telling companies what their vaccine policy should be. The company knows best what its customers and employees want. Force them to make the decision and keep the government out of it.
I see your point, but utility companies are absolutely in bed with government. LTIIP is tens of millions of free Federal dollars for utility companies to upgrade their systems.
They will all comply.
We will see. I predict not. Is your employer now saying that the vaccine will be required? Is your employer short of workers?
I agree that they are going to make it as inconvenient as possible for people to be unvaccinated, but I think they have pretty much hit the wall now.
The company I work for told us that they were not going to mandate the vaccine for now, but they were encouraging everyone to get it. We have about 95% of our people vaccinated. So far, no one at the company has been infected, nor has anyone had a problem with the vaccine. We have about 200 people, and we’re in FL, which is a hotspot.
Personally, I decided that the risk of covid was greater than the risk of the vaccine. I’ve had just about every vaccine you can imagine. I get the flu vaccine every year. Tetanus every 10 years. Hepatitis A and B... several others. Never had any reaction to any vaccine, except I admit that I felt pretty run down for a day after receiving the covid vaccine. That means the vaccine is working. But it was an easy decision for me.
I have a 4 year old granddaughter who’s got type 1 diabetes, so I was determined not to infect her.
When the vaccine first came out, I suggested to my 87 year old mother that she get it. She was reluctant at first. She told me she was worried about the long term effects. Can you imagine that? She’s 87 and she’s worried about the long term effects. I mean if she was an infant, then I could maybe understand, but at 87, no. I eventually persuaded her to get it.
When you look at the mandates in other countries, they are far worse than ours. The most stringent mandates are in China. They are shutting down large parts of their economy to stop covid. I read the other day that it’s expected that the US growth rate will exceed that of China for the first time in decades, and the reason is that they are shutting down their economy even though they’ve only got a few cases. This delta variant will eventually overtake them no matter what they do I think. It’s just punishment.
They’re definitely undermanned, but a utility company is a monopoly. They can’t lose business. I’ve never worked in a more dysfunctional place. They don’t have to be intelligent, wise, or adapt to anything. We’ll see though.
That is pretty funny about your Mom.
Good luck.
You are going to need it.
And the way you talk about your mom is disrespectful.
Damn. I wish I had known about this thread last night when I was working on a project.
I found this thread by accident while trying to find the thread someone posted today about Trump saying he took the Phizer shot.
