Joe begged Putin to open his bases to US planes and troops. Putin told him “No”. Joe also asked for assistance with evacuations and Putin said “No”. Blinken called China and asked them the same thing and got a big No. Joe has already worn out his welcome with not only Russia and China, but with Europe also. Joe os batting 0 right now

If you actually watch Putin’s press conferences, he’s always very composed and articulate. It’s really hard to disagree with what he says.

Now of course, behind closed doors, it’s a different story.

The only people who say “yes” to Biden are Congressional Republicans.

Why is the pipeline any of our business?

Here....I’ll let RPOTUS explain....

The Trump administration fears the pipeline will tighten Russia’s grip over Europe’s energy supply and reduce its own share of the lucrative European market for American liquefied natural gas.
Skateboarding protesters occupy gas pipeline in Germany
EU agrees tighter rules for Russian pipeline
President Trump has said the 1,225km (760-mile) pipeline, owned by Russia’s Gazprom, could turn Germany into a “hostage of Russia”.
The US sanctions have angered Russia and the European Union, which says it should be able to decide its own energy policies.

And, this...

...For years, Democrats and their cable-news echo chamber spread ludicrous rumors about former President Donald Trump being an agent of Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin. The irony is that Trump, when it came to substantive policy, took a very hawkish line against Moscow — moves his Democratic successor is now busy undoing.

He shored up missile defense in Central and Eastern Europe; stood strongly with America’s allies in the region, and unilaterally withdrew the US from bilateral and multilateral accords, such as the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, that buttressed Russia, which refused to comply with their terms.

Most notably, Trump adamantly tried to block construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, a nearly completed, but stalled, 764-mile natural-gas pipeline connecting Russia with Germany via the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream 2 is an indispensable tool for a Russian Federation seeking to extend its energy domination of the Continent and circumvent Ukraine as an energy transit station.

But Biden’s Washington won’t oppose the pipeline.

So why can’t we simply produce the energy, and supply Europe, if the damn greenies would just get out of the way, we can drill enough for ourselves and any of our allies that need it and reduce dependency on Russia.

I guess, it looks like Putin is against Taliban. Russia was always against them, mostly because Moscow is afraid of fanatical Muslims spreading their way.

Exactly. Russia has a lot of Muslims in their Central Asian part.

Putin so far has been lucky that for the most part he’s bought their loyalty, especially in Chechnya, but that can change very quickly.

I’d say differently. I respect Biden for his support of interests of his country. Putin otherwise inclines to be adventurist. His last involvement in Karabakh says for that.

Russia is a little bit of an enemy, but a lot of competition.

There are only two energy giants in the world, the US (~2/3rds) and Russia (~1/3). Everyone on this planet produces and/or consumes energy in the form of oil and gas that is produced inside the sphere of influence of one of them (period).

Iran = Russia
Saudi Arabia = US
Syria = Russia
Kuwait = US
Venezuela = Russia
...

Even firms like Total and Fina (French) pump that oil out of the ground in areas either under US or Russian control. In the bigger picture, Russia is NO threat in so far that they are not seeking an armed conflict with us, and we are not with them. The biggest “security” threat Russia truly posses is the exportation of advanced weaponry (SAMs, ATGMs, communications and jamming equipment, torpedo’s, etc).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPG-30
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-300_missile_system
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-400_missile_system

In fact it has been “us” that have crapped all over agreements we made with them and stationing troops and missile defense in former East block countries, and expanding NATO eastward in direct contradiction of what we once promised them. When they were down (the Yeltsin era), we walked all over them.

That said, their interests and our interests sometimes over lap, but often are in conflict (i.e. Ukraine, Republic of Georgia, Syria...) over control of these areas. We definitely took it to far and while it might not be the “patriotic” thing to say, we are not the good guys in many aspects here (we pushed them and poked them, broke agreements... We were going into another man’s back yard and crapping there - i.e. Ukraine).

***Putin is good for Russia, but not for us.***

It’s no different when we have a strong or weak leader. They LOVE weak US presidents like Carter, Clinton or Obama. They despise a Reagan or a Trump. Trump was agreeable to them because he knew the boundaries, he was pragmatic and predictable - He spends a lot of time grooming his mad man image, but is actually very calculated. The problem with someone like a naïve Obama was that he might shoot his mouth off about “red lines” being drawn in the sands of Syria (That’s the Russian sand box).

Even our allies dislike a Trump. After all, he demands them to pay 2% GDP on defense as with NATO (their contractual agreement), asks for a greater involvement in international security matters... You should have seen the way Reagan was portrayed in many of those nations allied with us (cowboy, war mongered, saber rattler, dumb...).

That’s just MHO-

I would say Putin reaction to the fall of Afghanistan must be bittersweet.
Sweet, because I am sure he enjoys the humiliations of the USA. He is not our friend and he likes to undermine the US. He must be enjoying what he sees now from that point of view.
But, I am also sure, he does not want Taliban to take over the Afghanistan. The radical Islamists will spread to the central Asia, to the Russian client states and to Russia itself.
For the same reason, I suspect China government has the same bittersweet feelings.

Oh guy where you get such a dupe))..

You are mistaking thinking that Russia is afraid of Muslims. Nothing farther of truth.
We lives with them in one country for centuries now. We know them personally. We work together, we eat and drink on one table. Sometime we marry their daughters or sisters or vice versa. They are an integral part of Russia. We are same but maybe pray differently. Sometimes they come to pray in our churches and we come to their mosks. If you know how to behave correctly, it is no problem.
If you know the Muslim fighters from Dagestan and whole Caucausus and Kazahstan were fighting hitlerites from Hitler’s Eurounion near Moscow in 1941 and killed a huge lot of those Europeans there who were actually Christians. Those Christians were mortal enemies for us much bigger proportion than any Muslims will ever be.
So for us our Muslims are us and for them we are them. They love Russia and will defend her as their ancestors did.
They are all moderate Muslims. But those who creates trouble are called wahhabits or islamists. In Russia they are considered a extremists and forbidden and belonging to these groups is a felony. Those islamists hate our Muslims more then even us orthodox Christians. Because we are just infidels but they are munafiqs the false muslims. Us islamists can tolerate but moderate Muslims they not.
So in between of FSB anti-terrorist teams which fight those islamists there is a lot of our Muslims. They kill islamists with vengeance.
And Putin didn’t buy their loyalty because they were loyal to Russia in first place. And they never want the islamic Khalifate to win.
For your understanding our Russian Muslims are like those who want to leave Afghanistan these days and gathering in Kabul airport. But islamists are Taliban.
But in Russia they like changed places: it is islamists who want to leave Russia not vice versa like we see in Kabul.

In sweet part you right Putin glads to see American defeat there from towel heads. But on second part you are wrong.
IMHO Putin care les who will hold power in Afghanistan. It is just foreign country which has no importance to Russia. If islamists spread in Central Asia then it might help Russia to curtail Chinese interests there. Which is good for Russia.

I disagree. Afghanistan used to be Soviet neighbor.
Russia has a lot of Muslims and the central Asian countries, from the former Soviet Republic, which are client states of Russia, are mostly Muslim.
The Russian Muslims are of the moderate type. If somebody would try to radicalize himself, he is quickly exterminated.
But, I am sure, Putin is supper worried about possible spread of the radical Muslim movement from Afghanistan into the Central Asia and Russia. If this catches on, you would hear of fighting in Central Asia. They must avoid that in any way possible.
That’s why they are already supporting the budding opposition. See bottom of this

Tajikistan decided to support anti Taliban movement.

well, yes, the Wahhabis/Islamists hate moderate Muslims the most. But, Islamist are just the loud minority in all Muslim states. Even in Afghanistan!
But, somehow, they are able to spread out and take control.
Russians are not afraid of their Muslims, but they are afraid of foreign agitators. They can make a lot of trouble.
