Look at it this way: The fact that a thief that I know burgled my home last month, doesn't mean he is going to successfully carry out another burglary of my home next month too. Usually said thief will meet with an unfortunate mishap on his second attempt.
There are plenty of videos on YouTube where home owners who have been burglarized before set traps for the unfortunate burglar who tried it a second time.
