I think the US military is spread out, weak, and ‘busy’ with the afghnistan fiasco. The submarine force will be what the chinese are afraid of, IMHO.

I agree with your assessment. The Chinese are smart enough to realize that the Dems will probably lose control of the House and perhaps the Senate next year. They follow our politics and the ramifications of our elections relative to their objectives. They also know a window of opportunity when they see one. I believe they will make their move against Taiwan within one year’s time. It may not be a full blown attack but it will be some form of aggression. JMHO
