I cannot claim to be an expert but I know that my prediction that “10,000 years in the future people will still believe infomercials and pick their noses” is far more likely to happen than this whack-a-doodle’s.

Exactly. I suspect that whomever wrote this, is misstating time scales. The hypotheses given is interesting, but I’m not sure how accurate it is. Seems to be a bit of hand-waving going on.
