I don’t live in NY, but apparently even legally acquiring/possessing any kind of firearm requires permission from the state government—and there are lots of hoops to be jumped through. Even more obstacles are in place to prevent possession of a hand gun. The requirements in NYC are even more onerous. And that’s just legal possession in one’s home, not an actual concealed carry permit.

Had the victim shot the assailant, and he didn’t have the proper permits, he would be in legal trouble—likely more than the guy wielding the axe.

I once attended a talk given by an NRA lawyer. He said there were three places in the United States where authorities will take extreme measures to prosecute citizens for carrying a gun without a permit.

The three: Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City.

Yeah, I know. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Better yet to stay the hell out of those cities.
