Depends on which Baptists you talk to; my church, which is American Baptist, emphasizes soul freedom, and puts the onus of interpretation on each individual. Other branches, especially Southern Baptists, tend to be more conformational. There is a huge variety under the umbrella, and tons of disagreement.
Thanks. I’d probably side with the people who say it’s ultimately up to the individual. But conformity to your group is important too, especially if you are on the more “liberal” side.
