I remember where I was when I heard he had died. I was browsing in a store attached to the old Maple Leaf Gardens and the radio was on and the news dropped. The Gardens was an actual venue Elvis had played in 20 years earlier.

Believe that visit to MLG would have been part of the same tour that brought him to my hometown. I recall reading a story about how local schools sent notes to parents to sign pledges in that they would not permit their kids to go to the concert he gave (at the old Ottawa Auditorium).
