Occasionally some wisdom does manage to accompany age. I’m not claiming to be wise, but I have learned a couple things in spite of myself.
I believe there is a war cartel. And I believe most wars are meant to feed that cartel. They don’t care about the innocents who die to fill their pockets.
Reagan had it right, peace through strength. Be so strong no country wants to challenge you, and stay out of other countries’ business.

I'll say that going into Afghanistan post-9/11 was a requirement for Bush. Not to have done so would have been a real blow to US credibility. Maybe the error was trying to set up a government via loya jirga and putting just another mercenary in charge of the whole place. Perhaps would have been better just to ream out Omar and Osama with some alacrity, and gtfo. Assure the individuals in the Taliban that if they attack us again that they personally will die, and then let them have their rotten country.
