Re: FDR
A few years back I saw a news reel compilation of events back when FDR was Gov. Very clear segment where he was being held upright by two aides at some building topping off ceremony...looked feeble even then.
He was certainly before my time. I am going by documentaries I have seen of his presidency.
I don’t, personally, think much of him as a person, but I will give him credit for the extent to which he overcame his disability. Of course, it helped to have a compliant “press” to sell the lie that he was not disabled.
In a strange twist, I think he could meet with Churchill or Stalin, and his disability was not an issue. No one was going to challenge him to a wrestling match, and there was no point in those he met bringing it up. Contrast this with Biden who had to have a cackling Harris show up to “meet” Japan’s PM. Joe’s disability makes a meeting pointless, and to have Abe leaving and saying that Joe was completely out of his mind, was something the administration couldn’t have, at least at this time.
