Owls get hit by vehicles all the time. They regularly swoop low for prey and if a car is driving by, it gets hit by the grill or windshield.

I’ve narrowly missed hitting an owl on several occasions.

I was riding a motorcycle in central Oregon one night, and passed maybe a foot beneath a great horned owl. I was going about 60 mph, and that bird’s wingspan looked at that moment like it reached clear across a two-lane road.

“I’ve narrowly missed hitting an owl on several occasions.”

Back in the 70s, I hit one while driving a very low Chevy Vega on a rural highway at night. The hit was high on the windshield and I heard it bounce off the back deck. It suddenly swooped in out of the darkness to appear right in front of my windshield in a blur of wings. No damage to my vehicle, thankfully.

I had a barn owl slam into the passenger side window of my truck at dusk once as I was driving down from fishing in the mountains.
