Because they paid for it with their freebie government checks just like you.
We had a Hilton gold week in Orlando. I can't remember if it was Parc Soleil or Tuscany Village. We spent a lot of time at both places and they were only a couple of minutes apart. My wife was new to Orlando and we used to stay in hotels booked through Priceline (there was a bidding strategy to that also) but we would take timeshare tours to get free WDW tickets. She was blown away by the Parc Soleil but I knew it was a ripoff. Still, she didn't like hotels and I liked Orlando so I started looking at the resale sites and found something at a price I could put up with.
We only lived 6 hours away from Orlando and we had season passes to Universal Studios so we would take a lot of trips there. You could also book rooms at member rates and they would have a lot of specials so we did a lot of short trips there also, staying at both of those resorts. You had to keep a close watch on the exchange site because WDW didn't come up that often and you had to be ready to book right away but luckily we had the flexibility to do that.
Some timeshares in oddball places also had their advantages. When we lived in New Hampshire one of our neighbors had a timeshare in Conway, which is near some good ski resorts. Their timeshare was probably a crap exchange but you could use the facilities any time of the year if you were an owner, even if you weren't staying there. It had a heated indoor pool so it was a great way to relax after a day of skiing and before heading home. You can't do that in Orlando. You can only be onsite when you are booked. When we went on timeshare tours we used that Conway timeshare as an excuse as to why we weren't interested in purchasing, but thanks for the gift :-)
As time went by it was getting harder and more expensive to get Disney passes with timeshare tours because WDW started cracking down. They started trying to offer you cash instead or free vacations, which means it was no longer worth taking tours. We got out at the right time.
You can live the starship experience with the new Oculus Quest 2 VR rig for only $300 bucks.
The whole family can share it.
You worked the system, you guys are a top 5 percenters. Free t8ckets are n8ce but I had to get ornery oat one seminar. They said “ 90 minutes of your time” almost 2 hours into the salesman still talking I told him we have been here over 90 minutes, can we get our busch gardens tickets now? Next thing i knew he left and his boss came over making a scene about how rude we were!!! We got the tickets anyway.
You made me laugh but you are also correct.
That quip originated in the first U.S. humor magazine Puck in 1906.

We would go to Orlando for a week then alternate between a day in a park, usually Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure because we had season passes, and a day of timeshare tours. My wife is British and our goal was to stock up on tickets so her daughter, son-in-law and their 2 children could have the vacation of a lifetime, and we pulled it off.
