What amazes me is the staggering plethora of tanks and armored vehicles the Germans were able to produce. Their main workhorse was the panzer Mk 4 which started off with a 50mm main gun and then was upgraded to a 75mm. It was more than a match for any Sherman tank. The Germans made several variants of this tank and hundreds, sometimes thousands of each type. They later used the chassis of this tank to make a variety of self-propelled(''sturmgeschutz'') assault guns and anti-tank guns. It's mind boggling as to how they were able to do this if we and the RAF were bombing their industries night and day.
Michael Wittmann would disagree.
I read a story some years ago about a guy finding a Panther 5 in river in Poland with the turret blown off. He found what was left of the turret and took what was left back to the UK to restore. It had pictures of his progress. He had to have a fortune in the restoration.
