Flick told the judge he bought the tank as scrap in Britain in 1977, and had even paid the Bundeswehr £25,000 to repair the engine.

But he agreed to plead guilty to breaching the War Weapons Control Act and was handed a 14-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay 250,000 euros (£213,000).

Although the pensioner is facing a colossal fine, the judge was swayed not to confiscate the tank or the AA gun, but ordered that they must be sold within the next two years.

The panzershreck was a nasty piece of work.

What amazes me is the staggering plethora of tanks and armored vehicles the Germans were able to produce. Their main workhorse was the panzer Mk 4 which started off with a 50mm main gun and then was upgraded to a 75mm. It was more than a match for any Sherman tank. The Germans made several variants of this tank and hundreds, sometimes thousands of each type. They later used the chassis of this tank to make a variety of self-propelled(''sturmgeschutz'') assault guns and anti-tank guns. It's mind boggling as to how they were able to do this if we and the RAF were bombing their industries night and day.

You’ve got to hit it point blank and you’ve got to hit it from behind. We don’t have the element of surprise.

Michael Wittmann would disagree.

Rusted out blown up panzer V panther hulls are worth HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars pulled out of a swamp. I think he’s got 10mm in that tank before looking at engine, gun, and optics

I read a story some years ago about a guy finding a Panther 5 in river in Poland with the turret blown off. He found what was left of the turret and took what was left back to the UK to restore. It had pictures of his progress. He had to have a fortune in the restoration.
