Your comment reminded me of working for a Silicon Valley energy management company back in the early 80’s.
We were moving from one building to another and there was not much to do while the cubicles and other things such as phone lines were being put in, it was a Monday and there was plenty of hammering and all sorts of other noise.
Being hungover from (yes, Sunday) shenanigans, I asked my boss if I could go home because I felt bad and there really was nothing I could do (truly, there wasn’t).
This very wise man looked at me and smiled….he said “no, I think you should stay”.
And I had to stay all day, with a hangover, in a hammer rich environment, with nothing to do but be in agony.
This was the last time I ever partied on a Sunday expecting work to escuse my absence.
