Admiral Halsey should have been court-martialed for his 2 screw ups at Leyte.
1) Halsey’s pursuit of the Japanese decoy left the our Leyte invasion force open to attack.
2) On Dec 17, a typhoon destroyed 3 Third Fleet destroyers with 790 sailors and 146 aircraft lost.
Nimitz saved Halsey from being cashiered.
I think there is a reason that Halsey never had a line of ships named after him.
