I don’t know about how it was going in every state, but where I live, I wasn’t eligible to get any vaccine until late March, and I’m 61. I’m guessing these people got sick BEFORE they were eligible to get the vaccine. So yes, tragic, but they are making it sound like they regret not getting it when they likely couldn’t have received the jab. It was May here before the vaccines were available to any adult. I can’t imagine Alabama moved a ton faster.
