“Texas has seen nearly 9,000 COVID-19 deaths since February. All but 43 were unvaccinated people.
Preliminary data shows 99.5% of COVID-related deaths in Texas were among unvaccinated people, according to the Department of State Health Services...JULY 21, 2021”

People should protect themselves as best they reasonably can, even by a first generation vaccine or by far less effective mask wearing in high people density places at least until one is fairly sure no one present is obviously sick.
These phrases come to mind - paralysis through analysis, the perfect is the enemy of the good.
Here is the CDC database.
The CDC dataset for Texas 2021 COVID-19 deaths shows this:
Let's talk about the last six months. That would be January 2021 through June 2021? What was going on during this period?
The FDA didn't grant emergency use authorization until December 12, 2020, so vaccinations couldn't really ramp up for a few weeks after that.
If we agree on the premise above on the phased roll-out of the vaccine, that means that by the end of the Feb-Apr period, 81.5% of the deaths occurred during the period when the vaccine was still being rationed to the highest risk categories.
If we give April back and only look at the Feb-Mar period of roll-out, that still means that 70% of Texas deaths occurred before the vaccine was available to the general public.
Nationally, the story is the same.
The 99.5% unvaccinated COVID-19 deaths is a useless propaganda number, because most Americans couldn't even get the vaccine for the first four months of the year.
