You're smoking your socks if you think they wanted "Democracy". Democrats don't even want Democracy. They say they do, that's just a power grab. When the usual suspects say "Our Democracy" just substitute "Our illegitimate criminal party enterprise" and it will make more sense. Maybe if and when they import enough foreigners. California used to be a pretty rock solid Republican state. However - as a thought exercise - even if America were a Democracy - importing illegal aliens, foreign mationals, whatever - importing more _voters_ to alter the outcome of elections is still an especially egregious and a treasonous act.
