It turns out that the influenza virus isn't a Covid variant.
The test in question is being withdrawn because all it can identify is SARS CoV-2 and other panels are available that can also identify influenza and other respiratory virus from a single sample.
The RT PCR test never confused influenza and SARS CoV-2 and the CDC never said it did.

But the idiots saying that the PCR test can’t tell the difference between Covid and the Flu? Those people are wrong. The new PCR test can tell you if you have Covid, or if you have the flu. The old PCR test could only tell you if you had Covid. That’s why they only give the new test now, because it’s better, but not because it was positive in either case. That’s just a lie, and it appears on this thread about a half-dozen times.
